“Air Your Laundry”
The brief for this live project was to create an art based intervention that will change peoples negative perceptions of a key public space in the centre of Bristol known as the Bear Pit. The following components were developed as key requirements for the chosen design:
Playful – Encourage urban interaction
Flexible – Demountable and multifunctional
Innovative and Sustainable - look to use reclaimed materials and locally sourced materials
Affordable – come within the £1,000 research budget
Inclusive – Be appropriate for all members of the community and contribute towards helping members of the community most in need
The chosen proposal, “Air Your Laundry” is a one day event which will create a hive of activity and interaction. Passers by will be invited to purchase an item hanging from the structure for a donation that they see fit. These donations will then go to the charity “Shelter”, a charity that helps homeless people in need, a demographic of particular relevance to the Bear Pit.
