Overview

The project was an investigation into the formation of a community led CIC, called the Ashley Green Space Network that could commission the local green spaces of Ashley ward. The output, in the form of a report, studied both the formal and informal spaces in the area and aimed to generate proposals which would result in community led inclusive parks. The intention of the process was to insure the future viability of the spaces amongst ongoing funding cuts from the Bristol City Council.

The aim was to develop a document that proposes a new way to manage these specific green spaces, provide proposed improvements and suggestions that can create an effective way of shifting to a sustainable management approach. Through a spatial and economic analysis of the parks the document aimed to assist the local interested parties by improving their understanding of potential opportunity for improvement for unrepresented public green spaces. The Bristol City Council has introduced recently a new project called Bristol Future Parks Project, which aims to look at a new way to manage parks. The project finds ways to protect and improve public parks and green spaces by creating partnerships with: community groups, volunteers, sports clubs and, local businesses.

The final output intends on exposing opportunity for change resulting in positive green spaces which benefit all in the local community of Ashley Ward.
