Aim:

The Craft Quarter is an investigation of craft and manufacture, focussing on the Barton Hill area. The project aims to create a sustainable waste network and a social media sub-structure to redefine the way that modern craft is perceived and practiced in 2021.

Description:

The project involved virtual community engagements, from forum discussions to virtual meetings. The Craft Quarter aims to fulfil both the communities need of becoming more sustainable, while addressing a route to achieving Bristol City Council’s sustainability goals.

The Waste Less Tool Kit provides a ‘how-to guide’ for reusing and recycling waste locally, both through waste centres and craft orientated businesses, while the social media platforms create an underlying structure to support the advertisement and sharing of craft-able waste. The proposal of a legacy project visualises how a physical intervention could further develop the identity of the Craft Quarter, through bringing together local businesses and residents into creative environments such as workshops, café’s and exhibition spaces.
