'The kiss'

September 14, 2014 becca_russell@hotmail.co.uk

Inspired by Rodin's 'the kiss', which was on display at lewes for quite a long period and has now become a personal sculpture to lewes. I propose that the two structures would sit side by side, the same material but different colours? (in the pictures i have attached i suggested corrugated iron which would give more of an industrial quality that lewes holds in contrast to the romantic concept of the kiss sat side by side, or perhaps cement and wood board which would reflect the towns naturalistic elements) A space that reflects the towns history and brings it into the present and future. By not over complicating the design or by use of materials drawing on more conceptual considerations and minimal materials may allow the people of lewes to appreciate the space itself and the space that surrounds the structure. I was thinking the space created could be used for students or emerging artists around the city to show their work for a short period as a pop up exhibition, this could open the event as a private view bringing people together. I also really like the idea of a pop up stall, perhaps a bakery, where the community can gather together and learn to bake. I have also attached some images (think the last two images) which was a previous project i did, that was based around space. I created a replica of the same room it was shown in, and then artists showed their work inside instead of the "actual room". This project helped me to consider the concept of space and how we function within it. looking forward to meeting everyone, Rebecca Russell
