It's day 5 at Holzbau workshop. So far we are running behind schedule but the intensive design workshops do keep you on you on your feet partly due to communicational issues as whilst the Norwegians may speak fluent English they do lack in technical words this makes for an interesting exercise for conveying your ideas to 17 other people as all the fancier language is in the way. More so English is usually insufficient for the Norwegian counterparts as it does not clearly convey their design values. This puts a strain to what is otherwise group work XL though a crucial difference between this and university work is that this is driven by strong design ideas. If a you come across something good the task becomes managing the attention and manpower you would accrue. Among these is the array of disciplines, ages and years that bring a vast array of experience and knowledge to pick from. In the short few days this live Worksop has helped me acquire stair detailing ideas worth a boo k in itself written on the tablecloth. Whilst bridging this gap maybe difficult it is also rewarding, as uniquely to university I have a chance to experience a project from the concept to making it myself. This is very rewarding in order to observe how the concept and the design changes at each stage of the "cycle" that is otherwise the mishmash that we experience in design. More so it is the unique skill in how to compromise designs therefore furthering future concepts. And whilst in a way this is not a grand world changing idea it does make a change to me and my designs.
